In what ways do you directly contribute to the well being of others than self or family?

Please give me specific, measurable, observable acts. For example: I pick up trash on Saturday mornings, I am in the Coast Guard and rescued stranded boaters last week, I volunteer at a homeless shelter, etc. If you are really gutsy and intelligent, measure this against your political beliefs--does your view measure up to your altruism? Let's compare the answers of Democrats, Republicans, Green Party, Independents. Could be interesting if you aren't defensive and don't make umptions. Might be some surpises, out there!!!
