Why does he do this to me ... help ?!?

so theres this boy i've been talking to since january , & we started off as friends who would flirt , we'd talk on the phone every night & we started liking eachother but we were "friends" so we didn't do anything about it . we barely even hung out we never did . it was just talking on the phone & bbm . everyday , all day about anything & everything . i'd help him with girl problems & i'd tell him some of my business over time when i started trusting him . i thought he was a douche when i first spoke to him but as he let me in his personal life , i realized there was a lot more to this guy than meets the eye . so over time i guess we both fell for eachother he even admitted his feelings towards me on my bday it was beautiful he even said he was in love with me but he wrote "LOL" so when we finally hung out for the first time i was so nervous that i wouldn't be good enough to him but we ended up having a great time i could talk to this kid forever he makes it so easy ... but after we hung out things changed .. he drifted from me i would try to talk to him conversations would be short . i thought he just flat out found something physical he didnt like & blew me off ; but eventually we started speaking again i even admitted my feelings to him but didn't get the response that i wanted .. now we refer to eachother as brother & sister because im done trying to show this kid i like him so i take it for what it is .. a great friendship . but he gives me subtle hints that confuse me like songs to listen to me & they'll have a meaning like a love song or something & he'll give me a compliment when i look nice like wowwwww & we'll just go on about & we get all cute like saying i love you .. idk then i try to stop the moment by going gross its too mushy gushy :p but the point is we talk all day everyday no matter what & whenever i argue with him he nags & nags & nags .. & nags some more till i tell him whats wrong he doesnt like to see me sad . he alwaysss wnats to call me & when i say 5 mins he goes no now now now now lol idk im just getting this vibe that he likes me maybe loves me but hes trying to hide it for some reason ... WHATS THE DEAL ??
